Introduction (5 minutes)

• Teacher asks students if they have any prior knowledge of addition
• Teacher explains that addition is the process of combining two or more numbers together to get a total amount

Direct Instruction (15 minutes)

• Teacher demonstrates how to add two single-digit numbers using counting objects (e.g. 3 blocks + 4 blocks = 7 blocks)
• Teacher shows how to represent addition problems using number sentences (e.g. 3 + 4 = 7)
• Teacher provides examples of real-life situations where addition can be used (e.g. counting money, adding up toys, etc.)

Guided Practice (15 minutes)

• Teacher provides several addition problems for the students to solve using counting objects and number sentences
